Hello!

Tue Dec 14, 2004, 12:01 PM
Ok, well my last temp job has ended. I miss it. Being away from that job means not being forced into resorting to browsing the internet, and I don't find the motivation to get online as often now. Plus I spent the past week and a half reformatting my computer and getting it back up to speed, now that April has a computer of her own.

While I was backing up all of my files, I stumbled upon some old "work" of mine, and thought I'd post it up for kicks. Some deviations, some scraps - feel free to browse. Nothing too spectacular, as it's mostly old stuff, but I found it amusing nonetheless. Plus, I figured that posting a bunch of stuff would make up for all of the time that I've been away from the site this past month.

hi man cheers for the fav, where did you see my pic at if you don't mind me asking?

I did some serious browsing through the site while I was wasting away at work. I believe that I found your photograph when I was browsing through Photography -> Photojournalism -> People, organized by number of favorites, starting with the most favorites and going down to the least.

On a side note, I first attempted to browse the Photography -> Portraits section, but I was quickly turned off by the colossal amounts of junk that I found on the top of the lists in there. The masses of distasteful pictures of naked bloody women, and in-your-face amateur images of guys showing off their six packs as they make out, somehow got more favorites than the photographs that actually relied on skill, technique, and style. Don't get me wrong - I can appreciate that a photographer is bold in the same way that I can appreciate some erotic photography if it's done tastefully - but no matter how bold a photographer is, it shouldn't make a difference if they're not talented. The fact that the majority of the top photographs were all the same made it obvious to me that the section which I was looking at received its favorites based on content rather than talent.

That's when I decided to place my hope into this site's Photojournalism section, and I must say that I was very relieved by the talent that I found in there. It was a particularly pleasant surprise when I found your photograph, along with a few others, which I truly loved and found to be brimming with expertise. Yes, you got lucky, and you just so happened to be in the right place at the right time, but there's so much more to the photograph and you, the photographer, than just being lucky. You had the eye to instantly realize the opportunity, the skill quickly exploit it, the technique to create a perfect exposure, and a style which took your natural surroundings and used them to your advantage, all before such a fleeting moment was able to pass by. Basically, good photograph opportunities pass people by every day, and anybody can take a decent picture of them, but it takes the presence of a great photographer to take a good opportunity and enhance it into a perfect photograph simply by being the one behind the shutter. That takes talent, my friend, and your photograph shines with it.

hi man cheers for the massive reply, i'm blushing.
I totally get your point about all the erotic photography its a real pain in the ass to wade through- I think the real reason it gets so many favs is because folk like looking at boobs, I've no idea why they just don't go to the hun and be done with it.
:iconcocopupster:
Haha, seriously. Like I said, if it's tasteful I don't mind, but the majority of the stuff that I saw was anything but. Still, I found some that I absolutely had to call my favorites, including yours, and I can't complain about that. :)
:icongonzygirl:
omg raymond!!!!! your stuff is always soooo long!!!! usually on here...like on the front page thingys....peoples messages are just a tid bit shorter, lol :)

"I'm French! Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king-a?!"
:iconcocopupster:
Heh, no problem! I liked the feelings that were attatched to the photograph. There were so many, since there was no telling what it was that caused the person to shed that tear, and all of the feelings were so powerful, even though they all fit behind a single tear. Plus, I couldn't figure out how you set that one up, or even if it was something that was set up. It was a picture of something small, but it definitely wasn't simple.

Photographs don't get much better than that one. :)
